I am so excited to be going on this journey to Germany. I am graduating my master in Early Childhood Special Education in just a few weeks. My undergraduate is in Early and Childhood Education birth to grade sixth. I am currently a preschool teacher in a daycare. After graduation, I would like to follow my dream and be a kindergarten teacher.
This opportunity came at the perfect time of my life. I believe everything happens for a reason and this is a perfect example of that. I received the email to apply for this opportunity a week after my grandma passed unexpectedly. I was heartbroken and lost, if you knew my grandma and my relationship you would know we were like best friends. She always pushed me to follow my dreams, and to always reach for the stars. So when I got the email to apply, I felt it was her leading me down a path I was meant to be on. My grandfather was stationed in Germany while he was in the Army. He never talked about it, but we all knew he had been there. After applying and having an interview, I found out I got into this amazing program. I also found letters from my grandfather to my grandma while he was in Germany, also within my grandma’s possessions she also had a brochure of Germany that my grandfather must have brought back with him. This is how I knew I was doing the right thing. As I go to classes and learn more about Germany and their culture, it gets me more excited and aware of how different my few weeks will be while I’m there. I have talked to my host family and learned a little about them. I think it’s great that we are with a host family, they will have great insight and be able to show us Germany from their eyes. I look forward to learning so much more about Germany before I leave as well as when I am fully immersed in the culture.
