The Program

The International PDS in Nürtingen, Germany (IPDS-Germany) program provides opportunities for teacher education students across grade levels and academic disciplines to delve into Germany education and culture through a partnership with the Staatliches Seminar für Didaktik und Lehrerbildung (GWHS) Nürtingen, a teaching and teacher education campus.

IPDS-Germany is a non-credit program that includes over 2-weeks abroad each June/July. Participants travel to cities near Stuttgart to visit German schools, meet with teachers and students, live with host families, tour communities, and delve into German education, history and culture. Area excursions may include visits to Munich or Berlin, the Black Forest, the medieval towns, castles, art and history museums, and more! Participants also meet at Buffalo State during the spring semester for pre-travel activities and research, and cohort development.

Participating

IPDS-Germany is open to all Buffalo State currently enrolled teacher education students - including undergraduate and graduate elementary, middle, and secondary level candidates from all academic disciplines. Space permitting, this program is also open to area Pk-12 and university educators. Applications are accepted  through the School of Education Office of the Dean. Visit the Buffalo State IPDS program page for deadlines and application information.

Blogs

As they transition through the various adventures of their teach & study abroad experience participants – along with their project directors – will stop in to this site to share moments, visions, and thoughts through journal entries and photographs. Visit individual blogs to read about each participant's adventures and perceptions while part of the IPDS-Germany. Share your comments, questions, and supportive words as you peruse, and stop back often!

Hosting Teachers from Germany

In addition to facilitating travel for students from Buffalo State to Germany, this IPDS program also welcomes new teachers from Institute Nürtingen to Buffalo each spring semester. Along with their program leaders, these German teachers observe in area schools, visit Buffalo State courses and programs, and tour WNY and nearby attractions. Our visitors live with area Pk-12 teachers, and spend several days teaching and observing their hosts' classrooms.

The Buffalo State School of Education seeks area teachers who are interested in opening their homes, classrooms, and horizons to Germany as hosts! This is a unique opportunity for current teachers to bring a new piece of the world to their lessons, helping their students to see beyond the classrooms walls and view themselves as part of a larger, global, context. Host-Teachers commit to providing a living space for their German guest, along with some meals and transportation, good company, and the chance to observe and teach in an American classroom.
