Sooo, a little late, but as I tend to say-better late than never....
Today was yet again another busy day. From an evening of walking to a castle for dinner to the following morning of driving to Dachau Concentration Camp, it was a day I'll never forget. While walking around the area, I couldn't help but notice myself holding my breath, shaking my head in disbelief, and feeling like the wind had been getting knocked out of me. We read about our history, but actually experiencing memorials, monuments, etc. is a whole new take on what has happened in our past. From this experience, I will never forget the feelings I had throughout this afternoon and how sad this time was for people all over the world. Later in the afternoon we drove to Muchen where we experienced a busy city. Muchen was so beautiful and full of life. It almost reminded me of New York City, but bigger. When we got to Muchen the sun was shining and the people were walking around in all different directions. Many of us were excited to see the "tourists" shops and couldn't wait to go into them. Being able to walk around alone as "adults" was quite an experience in a country we are unfamiliar with. For myself, I can say that this allowed me to focus on direction and using my resources without having anyone to rely on. I feel much more comfortable walking around in areas I am unfamiliar with now than I had been two weeks ago. For now I'm off to sleep, but check back for updates :)

Literally, where has the time gone... Since the day before we left until now there is just sooooo much to blog about that I don't know where to start. When I originally was gearing up for this experience there was so much to worry about, focus on, think through, etc. As our group has embarked on this experience I can say, there's so much to discuss that it would take a long time to share everything. (I suppose that's why we have so many "bloggers." I'm hoping as I blog, things I don't discuss others will do so to make our blogs come full circle for those learning from our trip.
The week started with walking like never before known. If I wasn't in shape before the trip, I guess I could say I am now... Or will be after getting back from Germany. The food, culture, people, and history of Germany was exactly how I imagined as I have close relatives that came to the U.S as young, young, children. As a child I always wanted to visit Germany and never thought it would ever happen. The information one can take in is so much to digest that I recommend taking notes if you are as detailed and as others inform me as "all over the place." What can I say, it is who I am and we should be who we are :) During Berlin, you could say its similar to our NYC, as I've only been there once. The tours and information our coordinators have offered has helped so much in understanding the area. When flying to Berlin and meeting people from Germany who have assisted in our luggage, meal planning, etc. it was such a great impression. They greeted us with warm and loving gestures that don't seem maybe as common where we live. In some areas yes, but others not so much. As busy as the week has been, there has been so much I've learned with this experience abroad. The list could go on an on, but as a commuter at Buffalo State College, I never experienced the "dorm life." Living with peers I've known for maybe a few weeks prior to the trip and even with a host family can be either a good or bad situation just as others can be. It all depends on what you take out of the experience day by day, that determines the time that will be in the following days. For now, I close in getting ready for bed as it's 11:48 pm in Germany and need to be up at 6:00 am for the days adventures! Keep in touch for more and feel free to ask for clarifications if need be. :) -Caryn P.S I'm still working on the Weebly website, so forgive any spelling mistakes as I write how I talk. |
