Wow, where has the time gone? I'm sure the entire group would agree with me not only when I say that it feels like we just arrived in Germany 30 seconds ago, but also that I'm nowhere close to being ready to head back to the States.
The first leg of our journey started off in Berlin with more walking in hotter temperatures than I could have imagined. However, after HAVING to try every new German food I came across, the exercise was much appreciated. While Tours By John showed us the most significant and beautiful parts of Berlin, they definitely had us "walking with a purpose!!" Also, I may not be able to speak much German, I am now confident in my ability to navigate my way around Berlin using the train system! Of course it only took getting lost a few times!
One of my favorite parts of Berlin was being on top of the Reichstag building. Walking up the spiral ramp inside the dome, listening to a voice recording of a man telling me all about the buildings and places of Berlin allowed me to truly see the city, even if it was from a bird's eye view. It was an amazing experience.
As a true Buffalonian, food, family, and friends are very important in my life. Upon arriving in Stuttgart, my host family put on a large barbecue for Kaitlynn and myself to be able to be acquainted with the family. Not only was everyone so welcoming, but the food was absolutely delicious.
Not everyone in my host's family speaks English, so anyone can imagine how much of a learning experience communicating has been. Not only does it make you learn a lot about yourself, but it forces you to truly examine your native language under a microscope in order to effectively communicate with one another.
Overcoming language barriers is something people do not always have to experience. Speaking the same language as everyone around you is so often taken for granted. Submerging myself in a place where I am unable to speak a word of the language has been a real learning experience.
Below are just a few more of the beautiful places I have been blessed to visit while in Germany. With 4 more days to go, there's plenty more to come. (I am unable to make a slideshow from the app my phone so bear with me while I post multiple pictures!)
