Welcome back, readers! Today, I am excited to share my experience visiting another remarkable school in Interlaken: Schule Ringgenberg. This vibrant school, in the heart of the town, embodies a commitment to cultivating joy, curiosity, and community among its students.
Our visit to Schule Ringgenberg began with a warm welcome from one of our guides, Leila. As a 6th-grade teacher, she shared with us the end-of-year work her students were engaged in. Upon entering the classroom, we discovered an array of book reviews decorating the students' desks. These reviews provided insights into the stories they read, featuring details about the main characters, summaries, and delightful illustrations. After immersing ourselves in the classroom, we embarked on a tour of the school's campus. Schule Ringgenberg includes various buildings, each catering to different age groups and activities. The main school building served as the central hub of older learning, while separate structures housed things like the kindergarten classrooms or the gymnasium. As we wandered through the building, we were greeted by an abundance of student artwork covering the walls. The creativity and talent on display were lovely, showcasing the school's commitment to fostering artistic expression. One aspect that stood out during our visit was the emphasis on student involvement and input. We were delighted to learn that the students actively participated in designing the school's playground—a powerful example of the value placed on student voice and input. This collaborative approach not only fosters a sense of ownership but also ensures that the school environment caters to the needs and interests of its students. Schule Ringgenberg's core values provide a strong foundation for their educational approach. Joy, humor, and curiosity infuse every aspect of daily school life, fostering an environment where learning becomes an exciting adventure. The school community places great importance on taking care of both the school premises and the surrounding environment, cultivating a sense of responsibility and stewardship. Performance- and support-oriented lessons underscore the commitment to individual growth and success. At Schule Ringgenberg, genuine relationships and a sense of togetherness are cherished, with the entire school community coming together to celebrate significant occasions. The emphasis on direct discussions, transparent information, and open, respectful communication nurtures a culture of understanding and cooperation. My visit to Schule Ringgenberg left me inspired by the school's unwavering commitment to nurturing joy, curiosity, and community among its students. The dedication to student involvement, the celebration of creativity, and the embodiment of core values create a vibrant and inclusive learning environment. As I continue my journey through Switzerland and Germany, I carry with me the profound impact of these experiences, eager to apply the lessons learned to my own teaching practice and personal growth.
